Every statement line matched to a record

Short answer

Account activity is pulled by API where the bank supports it and imported from a statement file where it does not. Each line is matched to an invoice, an expense or a transfer, and an automatic match can be undone — it is a suggestion, not a verdict.

Matched and unmatched lines counted; the unmatched ones are the work.

The unmatched list is the job

Reconciliation is not reading the whole statement; it is finding the handful of lines that do not fit. Everything else should match itself.

What stays unmatched is short enough to clear in a sitting, and each one links to the records it might belong to.

An automatic match you cannot undo is a liability

Matching on amount and date alone is right most of the time, and wrong in exactly the cases that matter — two identical invoices, a part payment.

Every automatic match can be reversed, which is what makes automatic matching safe to use at all.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an API connection?

No. Where a bank has no API, a statement file can be imported and reconciled the same way.

Can an automatic match be undone?

Yes. Automatic matching is a suggestion and every match can be reversed.
